Joren De Wachter is an experienced IP strategist, with a focus on ICT technology businesses.
He is one of the few, and probably the first, IP strategist to come from a software and ICT background. This allows him to have a more open view on all of the different IP tools and strategies that are available. His writing has been recognized as insightful, renewing, and sometimes visionary.
He originally qualified as a lawyer in two jurisdictions, Belgium and England & Wales.
He has twenty years of experience in advising technology companies, both from an in-house as from an outside perspective. He has advised the most senior officers within his clients’ business, and he has extensive experience working with private equity investors, and publicly quoted companies in the US and the EU. His experience is truly international, having taken responsibilities for more than twenty different jurisdictions in all the different continents of the world.
His decision to set up his own consultancy business was driven by the observation that, although many technology companies know their technology, they often struggle to understand the impact of Intellectual Property on their business model and technology. From an opportunity perspective, they also struggle to integrate their intellectual capital in the most effective way into their business model.
In doing so, those businesses risk to miss out on many opportunities to increase revenue, control and direct costs better, and create value.
Joren helps technology companies and their investors to know, understand, use, protect and plan better their intellectual capital.
Joren lives in Brussels with his family. In his spare free time, when he’s not debating with his young children about the meaning of life, he is a passionate cyclist, and he plays the guitar in a band.
